Lawmaker Gets Community Service For Drunk Driving
EAST LANSING (WWJ/AP) - A judge has ordered a western Michigan lawmaker to perform 40 hours of community service and pay $1,101 for drunken driving.
State Rep. Bob Genetski received the sentence Wednesday in East Lansing District Court.
A Michigan State University police officer stopped Genetski on Jan. 19. A test at a hospital showed the lawmaker with a blood alcohol level of 0.09 percent. A reading of 0.08 percent or more is drunk under Michigan law.
The 45-year-old Saugatuck Republican took the case to trial, and a jury convicted him Sept. 25.
Genetski said a few days after his arrest that he was on his way to a motel after leaving the Capitol area on the night of Gov. Rick Snyder's State of the State address when the officer stopped him for "driving slightly above the speed limit."
