Last Chance: Detroit Court Waives Fees On Old Traffic Tickets

DETROIT (WWJ) - Tuesday is the last chance for drivers to get a break from Detroit's 36th District Court.

On December 29, the court is waiving all late and warrant fees on outstanding balances owed on tickets.

"We are encouraging people to take advantage of this one-time opportunity to restore their driving privileges and save hundreds of dollars on each ticket" Chief Judge Nancy Blount said in a statement. "The New Year is a time for new beginnings and we are trying to help people start the year off with a clean slate."

Before the doors even opened Tuesday morning, hundreds of Detroiters were lined up around the court, waiting to get inside and cash in on the amnesty offer.

The "two day sale" started Monday and continues Tuesday, Dec. 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 36th District Court, which accepts cash, credit cards, money orders and checks.

The 36th District Court is located at 421 Madison Avenue, on the northeast corner of Madison and Brush.
