LAST CHANCE

ROB SANFORD

The Tigers are in their last homestand of the season..the final chance for you to see the Bengals in 2010. While we can agree it's been a disappointing season, there have been some highlights.  There has been no other team in the major leagues this season that have had rookies at bat so many times. When you consider they are above or around .500 with so much youth, I have to be optimstic about the talent in the club's farm system. I really think if Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen had been healthy the entire season, the Tigs would have been much more competitive.

It's too little too late...but in the last 14 games, the Tigers have hit .306 as a team, and have a record of 10-4. In fact, in the last 28 games, the starting pitching staff have had an ERA of 2.94.

Even if both Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera are playing on a losing team. I believe both should be Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player respectively. When you consider Cabrera has put up the numbers he has, without any protection in the batting order makes it even more remarkable.

After seeing Jeremy Bonderman throw in his last 3 starts....I have to say he can still pitch. He doesn't have the blazing fastball he once had, but he has really impressed me with the transition to becoming a pitcher and not just a thrower. His will to win is also an important for any team to have available. I for one hope he doesn't decide to retire.

The 3 game sweep in Chicago was oh so sweet. The victories once and for all knocked out any hope the White Sox may have had to stage a comeback. Take that Ozzie and AJ Pierzinski!!
