Lansing Mom Convicted In Toddler's Death
LANSING (AP) - A Lansing woman has been convicted of murder in the death of her 2-year-old son. An Ingham County Circuit Court jury of eight men and four women delivered guilty verdicts against Mercedes Kemp on Friday.
The 21-year-old defendant was convicted of second-degree murder, torture and child abuse in Brandon Kemp's slaying last year.
The trial began three weeks ago.
Kemp will be sentenced March 27. She faces any term of years up to life in prison.
Defense lawyer Stacia Buchanan says Kemp was a victim of domestic violence, who had been "lured into a nightmare" and trapped by her boyfriend, Marcus Hill.
The Lansing State Journal reports Hill is expected to stand trial at a later date on a murder charge in Brandon's killing.
