Lansing Man Gets Life In Nightclub Shooting
LANSING (AP) - A Lansing man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a man outside a nightclub.
The Lansing State Journal reports 36-year-old Richard Strong on Wednesday received the mandatory term.
Strong maintained his innocence at the hearing.
An Ingham County Circuit Court jury earlier convicted Strong on the murder charge and weapons charges in the Nov. 10, 2011, killing of 35-year-old Ygnacio Bermudez Jr.
Authorities say Bermudez was shot five times outside the Loft club.
Strong testified in his defense, denying he killed Bermudez and that he fled Lansing after the shooting because he feared Bermudez's family would seek retribution. He took on another name and moved to North Carolina.
