Lansing Library Temporarily Gun Free

LANSING (WWJ) - Lansing's Capital Area District Library will stay gun-free, at least for now.

Ingham County Circuit Judge Rosemarie Aquilina extended an order that restricts patrons from openly carrying firearms onto the property of the library.

Judge Aquilina said the library has the authority to create its own weapons regulations. Her order is now in effect until June.

WWJ's Paul Snider said a gun rights advocacy group called Michigan Open Carry opposes the decision and wants people to have the right to carry handguns into the library.

The library was prompted to seek an injunction to halt the practice after four patrons were found carrying weapons on the property in February.
