Ice Storm Creates Plenty Of Headaches For Lake Orion Homeowners
LAKE ORION (WWJ) - DTE Energy is reporting more than 100,000 outages, mainly in northern Oakland County, Lapeer and Livingston counties. More than 155,000 Consumers Energy customers are in the dark, as well.
While there is no shortage of power problems; a Lake Orion party store is actually benefiting from the ice storm.
Oak Barrel Party shop on M-24 lost power -- but opened up the shop because they have a generator. Manager Michael Phillips says they've been very busy:
"Probably a little bit of it (has to do with the storm) and then we also have the regular customers on Sunday who are coming for coffee or something like that," said Phillips.
Joe Sossville lost power in his Lake Orion home and a tree fell on his roof.
"It doesn't look like it breached the roof," he says. "It's basically just a lot of tree everywhere. So I don't think there is too much except for gutter damage to the house."
"(This is a) big pain ... we had tons of plans today, you know? People coming over - not now too much of a mess," said Sossville.
"I'm very lucky, lost my sideview mirror (on my car) but I got it fixed up there."
Luckily, the tree did not crash through his home but he's called his insurance company, had the tree removed and his power has since been restored.
