L. Brooks Patterson Undergoes 2nd Surgery After Bone-Breaking Crash
PONTIAC (WWJ) - Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson has had a second surgery following a bone-breaking car accident last weekend.
Bill Mullan, from Patterson's office, said the 73-year-old county chief is "resting comfortably following a second surgery to repair orthopedic injuries Monday afternoon at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac."
The second surgery was part of the original treatment plan formulated by doctors Friday following the two vehicle accident in Auburn Hills.
Patterson was the front passenger in a car that was traveling eastbound on Walton Blvd., when it collided with a Volkswagen Passat that was turning left at the intersection of Opdyke Road. Patterson's vehicle had a green light and the right-of-way, according to police.
Patterson sustained injuries to his wrist, hip, and leg, as well as a gash to the scalp.
Patterson's driver, a 60-year-old retired Michigan State Police officer, is currently recovering at Detroit Receiving Hospital after sustaining serious injuries.
Two occupants in the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. All four parties are expected to recover.
A report released from Auburn Hills police on Monday states that neither Patterson nor his driver were wearing seatbelts. The report also states the driver and passenger in the other car were not wearing seatbelts.
Due to the extent of injuries to persons involved in the crash, the case is being presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office when the investigation is complete.
The crash remains under investigation.
