Kwame Kilpatrick Denies Link To Ferguson Funds
DETROIT (WWJ) - Kwame Kilpatrick is denying that he's receiving money from his friend Bobby Ferguson, as officials are considering raising his restitution payments to the city.
Via his Facebook page, the former Detroit mayor denied he's connected to money seized by the FBI from a Texas bank account linked to Ferguson.
Kilpatrick wrote on his Facebook page,"I have been made aware of media reports, in Detroit, that are asserting a claim that monies seized by the federal government, reportedly belonging to Bobby Ferguson, are in some way related to me. I, nor anyone in my family, have received any money from Bobby Ferguson. I have no knowledge of any of Mr. Ferguson's accounts, in Texas or anywhere else. Any reports that tie this seizure to me, my family members or my living expenses is completely false and malicious."
Officials have questioned how Kilpatrick pays for a larger home in Texas without revealing how he's paying for it. There has been talk about raising his restitution payments from $160 to $500 per month.
He owed the city a total of $860,000 from a 2008 plea in a criminal case.
Kilpatrick said he continues to work with Texas officials to follow all the conditions of his parole.
