Kroger Store In Downtown Royal Oak Doesn't Seem Likely
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - It doesn't look like downtown Royal Oak will get a new Kroger store on Main Street, on the site of an old car dealership.
WWJ's Gary Lundy has an update on what's going on between the city's planning commission, and Kroger officials.
It appears a formal resolution to the plan won't come until next month.
At a meeting a few weeks ago, the planning commission basically said it would deny the plans to allow the grocery chain to build a store in downtown Royal Oak.
The decision was unanimous.
Mayor Jim Elison says the commission, which he's a member of, had asked Kroger for a more urban design, similar to Kroger stores in Birmingham and Grosse Pointe. But Kroger spokesman Dale Hollandsworth says Kroger met all city ordinances and requirements.
The next planning commission meeting is August 9th.
