Kirk Maltby Might Get Playing Time Tonight
Play in the regular-season opener, then retire.
There probably aren't many hockey players who've gone that route, but Kirk Maltby might.
Maltby has been given until Monday by Red Wings general manager Ken Holland to decide his playing future.
Judging by Holland's comments Thursday, and the feeling in the locker room, Maltby is leaning toward retirement.
But, if forward Todd Bertuzzi (sore back) is unable to play tonight against the Ducks, and with Justin Abdelkader (ribs) and Kris Draper (groin) out, the Wings would need a forward.
