Kirk Franklin Honored By Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
CLEVELAND (WWJ/AP) - Grammy Award-winning gospel singer Kirk Franklin is honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Franklin was honored as part of the Hall's upcoming induction ceremony on Tuesday at the "Rock My Soul" celebration in Cleveland.
Several of Franklin's contemporaries performed during the celebration at the Playhouse Square State Theatre, including gospel greats Donnie McClurkin and Fred Hammond. Franklin also took the stage to give a short performance at the end of the celebration.
Hall of Fame President and CEO Terry Stewart tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper that gospel is "an integral part of our music." Without gospel, he says, there'd be no rock `n' roll."
Congratulations, Kirk!
