Kilpatrick Release Set For Next Week
DETROIT (WWJ) - Former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is scheduled to be released from prison next week.
Kilpatrick spent more than a year in custody for violating probation in a criminal case that forced him out of office in 2008.
After being set free -- Kilpatrick will be free to prepare for trial in 2012 on unrelated federal corruption charges.
Kilpatrick -- you may recall -- pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in 2008 in a case that was tied to his cover up of an extramarital affair with his chief of staff.
He was sent to prison in May of 2010 --- by a judge who said the ex-mayor had mis-led authorities -- and failed to turn over certain assets toward his $1 million restitution to Detroit.
