Kids Already Heading Back To Class In Some School Districts
WARREN, Mich. (WWJ) - In a handful of Macomb County schools, kids are already going back to class as part of a year-round school initiative.
Three schools in Warren have joined the program, meant to close learning gaps. While other kids were home with their video games, Monday was the first day of class for Amani Agoot at Siersma Elementary School.
What did Amani think about going back to school before the official end of summer?
"Good," she responded, before adding that she was excited. What's she looking forward to most?
"I don't know," she answered, before saying that she was looking forward to seeing her friends.
Amani's mom, Shanel Kristy, said she likes the year-round school.
"More convenient, as far as my work schedule, and then I know Amani is safe ... so it all works out," Kristy said.
This year-round school isn't an option just meant for students' preferences. The superintendent for Warren Consolidated Schools says it makes students globally competitive.
