Key Court Hearing Set For Ex-Michigan State Player Appling
DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — Former Michigan State basketball player Keith Appling is scheduled to face a key court hearing next month on weapons and drug charges.
A judge in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn on Friday scheduled a June 24 hearing to determine if the case goes to trial.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says the 24-year-old was arrested Sunday evening outside a Dearborn strip club. They say he was in the driver's seat of a car and two guns and a small amount of suspected marijuana were found in the vehicle.
Appling's lawyer says the search of the car wasn't legal.
Appling played for the Spartans from 2010-2014. He had two 10-day contracts with Orlando this season in the NBA and played for the Magic's Erie, Pennsylvania, affiliate in the NBA Development League.
