Key A.L. Series Begins Tuesday
CLEVELAND (AP) - The Indians and Tigers open up a big three-game series in Cleveland this evening. Detroit starts the day with a four game lead over the Indians in the American League Central.
A key factor for any team to win its division is to have a good record against divisional foes. The Tigers are 25-and-14 against Central Division opponents, while the Indians are a paltry 16-and-18.
Chicago's White Sox are also in the mix in the Central as they are five games back of the Tigers. Tuesday night the Sox are facing the Orioles in Baltimore.
Two of the top teams in the A.L. are squaring off in New York tonight as the Yankees entertain the Angels. The Bronx Bombers are currently a game and a half back of the Red Sox in the East, while the Angels are a game and a half back of the Rangers in the West.
The Rangers are home this evening to Seattle, while the BoSox are in Minneapolis to face the Twins. Minnesota's Jim Thome remains two home runs shy of 600.
The remaining American League games feature the Rays at home to the Royals and Oakland at Toronto.
