Kettering U To Expand Freshman Class

American business and industry have spoken -- there is an unprecedented need for more talented co-op students in the country, so Kettering University has agreed to increase the size of its freshman class to meet the growing need of its employer partners.

"Kettering University has more co-op job opportunities available than it does students," said Karen Full, Kettering's director of Admissions. "So we have agreed to increase the size of our new student class to help our corporate employers fill their current job needs."

The need is unprecedented in today's job market, Full said.

"It's not every day a university has this kind of opportunity," she said. "When was the last time you heard organizations like General Motors or the FBI or Argonne National Labs are pressing to find more talented co-op students? The jobs are diverse, too, from biomedical to chemical engineering to alternative energy and finance. If you know a high school or transfer student whose educational future is unclear, the timing is perfect to match their interests with our growing co-op jobs list."

Venetia Petteway, Kettering's corporate relations executive, said the push to find more co-op students is remarkably different than two years ago.

"We now have life sciences, pharmaceuticals, health care, bioengineering, acoustics, optics, bioinformatics, nanotechnology, aerospace, food processing and logistics co-op partners," Petteway said. "Some of the country's best companies are knocking on our door and we don't always have enough students to offer them."

Full said there is still time to apply for the 2011-12 academic year.

"Kettering utilizes a rolling admissions policy and will help qualified students find scholarship support, plus co-op salaries help offset educational costs," she noted. "But help us share this message – Kettering has some of the best student jobs in a generation! Help us fill them for great companies."
