Jury Selection Starts In 2009 Kidnap-Murder

The jury selection process gets underway this morning in the Ihab Maslamani murder trial.

The Flint man is accused in the August, 2009 kidnap-murder of Matthew Landry of Chesterfield Township. Landry was kidnapped at gunpoint in Eastpointe and held in a vacant house in Detroit for four days before he was fatally shot.

Maslamani and 17-year-old Robert Taylor face numerous charges, including murder, kidnapping and carjacking.

Maslamani's defense attorney, Joseph Kosmala, says both sides have agreed to bring in double the usual number of prospective jurors. He says the questionnaires will be filled out, turned in and studied by the court and attorneys. On Thursday afternoon, jurors will return for a Q&A. Opening arguments could begin Friday.

Taylor's trial is expected to start late next month.
