Jury Selection Begins For Man Accused In Cell Phone Death Of 12-Year-Old
DETROIT (WWJ) - Jury selection begins Monday in the trial of Joshua Brown who is accused in the fatal shooting of a 12-year old girl, Kadejah Davis.
Brown is charged with first degree murder, assault with intent to murder and felony firearm. If convicted, the 19-year old faces life in prison without parole.
Police say Joshua Brown shot through the door of Kade'jah Davis' home in an argument with Kade'jah's mother over a cell phone.
Police say Brown's mother, Heather, drove him away from the home.
Joshua Brown has been charged with first degree murder, while his mother has been charged with accessory after the fact.
The 36th District Court Magistrate, Steve Lockhart, said Heather Brown was grossly under-charged in the death of Davis.
Brown's mother pleaded to being an accessory after the fact and will be sentenced in early October.
Davis was a sixth grade honor roll student at University Yes Academy in Detroit.
