Jury Seated For Trial In Oak Park Officer's Death
A jury has been seated to decide the case of an 18-year-old man charged in the shooting death of an Oak Park police officer more than two years ago.
Jonathan Belton faces a first-degree murder charge in the Dec. 28, 2008, death of 28-year-old Officer Mason Samborski.
Police say Samborski was shot dead during a struggle following a traffic stop.
Belton was 16 at the time but is charged as an adult because of the nature of the offense. He has pleaded not guilty. The trial is scheduled to begin Monday morning in Oakland County Circuit Judge Rae Lee Chabot's courtroom and last several weeks.
If convicted as charged, Belton faces mandatory life in prison with no chance of parole.
