Jury Finds Toyota Not Liable For Death Of Woman In 2006 Camry Crash
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A jury says Toyota is not liable for the death of a California woman who was killed when her 2006 Camry crashed.
Jurors reached their decision Thursday and concluded the vehicle's design did not contribute to the death of Noriko Uno. The 66-year-old died August 2009 when her 2006 Camry apparently accelerated and crashed despite her efforts to stop.
Uno's family was seeking $20 million in damages, claiming that the crash could have been avoided if Toyota had installed a brake override system. The Japanese automaker blamed driver error.
Toyota still faces roughly 300 personal injury and death lawsuits related to sudden acceleration in state and federal courts.
