Judge Upset By Slow Pace In Police Groping Case

DETROIT (AP) - A federal judge in Port Huron is backing off and giving the Detroit City Council more time to approve a settlement in a lawsuit that claims male officers groped two men.

Judge Lawrence Zatkoff had ordered the entire council to travel 60 miles to court next Tuesday to explain why it's taken months to approve the deal. But he changed his position Friday after the city said the settlement could finally be approved by then.

Two men say they were groped by male officers during a traffic stop in 2006. The city agreed to settle the case in March for $50,000, according to a notice in the Detroit Legal News.

The judge now wants to see the Detroit council Thursday, although it could be moot if the deal is approved.
