John Dingell: Veterans Need Jobs, Support When They Come Home
LANSING (WWJ) - People in Michigan and across the country took time out this week to mark Veterans Day. But, Michigan Congressman John Dingell said the best way to honor veterans is to make sure they have a job and other support they need when they come back home.
"One of the things that we in congress have been working very hard on, and probably one of the few things in which there has been bipartisan effort, and that is to see to it that the health, the wellbeing, the jobs and economic opportunities, that the welfare of these veterans, who have given so much to the United States, is taken care of," said Dingell.
The Congressman is especially passionate about the issue because he himself is a veteran of World War II.
"I intend to do everything that I can to take care of these veterans, because after all I am one of them and I understand how it feels. My country was good to me and we must see to it that our country is good to our veterans and treats them with the dignity and appreciation worthy of what they have done," said Dingell.
Dingell is pushing for passage of legislation that would provide tax breaks for companies that hire veterans. The bill has already passed the Senate.
