UM Loses Hope For Harbaugh
The Jim Harbaugh sweepstakes is reportedly over as the former Michigan quarterback accepts the head coaching job with the San Francisco 49's.
WWJ's Rob Pasko says Harbaugh was at the top of Michigan's wish list to replace former head football coach Rich Rodriguez.
"Harbaugh ment with the 49ers earlier this week, and has decided to stay in the Bay Area, just not with Stanford. Now, with Harbaugh reportedly off the market, Michigan is more likely to pursue LSU's Les Miles and San Diego State's Brady Hoke, both Michigan guys, former assistants," he said.
Pasko says Nebraska's Bo Pelini has also been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Wolverine's job.
Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Harbaugh will agree to a five-year contract with the 49ers.
This is a somewhat long-expected move for Harbaugh, albeit one that had plenty of twists and turns towards the end. Harbaugh and the Niners brass met for five hours on Wednesday. Late Thursday, Stanford reportedly upped its offer to try and keep the head coach.
On Friday, whispers about Harbaugh going to Michigan resurfaced. Earlier in the week, the Denver Broncos expressed interest – and obviously not as much interest as the Miami Dolphins, who sent their top men to California for a face-to-face meeting.
In the end, all the drama only helped to raise Harbaugh's value. We don't yet know exactly what that value is, but we do know that by choosing San Francisco, Harbaugh at least saves himself the cost of moving and buying a new house.
