Jim Harbaugh Comments On Colin Kaepernick's Decision To Sit During National Anthem

ANN ARBOR (CBS Detroit) -- San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been in some hot water this week.

The 28-year-old recently doubled-down on his decision not to stand during the customary performance of the National Anthem before NFL games. He told NFL.com that he is "not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color."

Former 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh addressed the media on Monday, mostly to talk about the coming season for his Michigan Wolverines. But he was inevitably asked about his former quarterback's stance.

"I acknowledge his right to do that, but I don't respect the motivation or the action," Harbaugh told reporters. He later took to Twitter to clarify his comments and apologize for any misunderstanding.

National outrage followed Kaepernick's actions, but the NFL issued a statement saying that players are not required to stand up during the anthem.
