Jim Brandstatter: 'Guarantee It Won't Be Easy'
The final scheduled meeting between Notre Dame and Michigan was supposed to be what many recent games in the series have been: an instant classic. Instead, the Irish raced to a 21-0 halftime lead, won 31-0 and shut out Michigan for the first time since 1984.
Michigan's 376-game streak without being shut out was the longest in FBS history.
Wolverines broadcaster Jim Brandstatter thought Michigan would fare far better than they did. After all, Notre Dame is the one opting out of the rivalry, and the two schools have engaged in a war of words in recent years. One would assume, then, that the Wolverines would enter Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday with a chip on their shoulder.
No such chip was found.
And so, despite winning four of the previous six meetings, Michigan leaves the rivalry with a bad taste in its mouth – and no opportunity for revenge.
"Two years ago, when Notre Dame opted out, they said (it was) because of their ACC schedule," Brandstatter said on Ferrall on the Bench. "(They said) it just doesn't allow us to have the same kind of schedule (to) play with Michigan like we did in the past. And then two years later, they decided they're going to schedule Ohio State to a two-game series."
