Jeff Riger: What A Prince Of A Day At The Ball Park
Thursday afternoon was the official welcoming party at Comerica Park for the Tigers newest free agent, Prince Fielder. Fielder, along with his agent Scott Boris, new owner Mike Ilitch, new GM Dave Dombrowski and new manager Jim Leyland, sat and chatted with the media, answering questions ranging from Prince's new contract to why Brandon Inge is not a "happy camper" these days. Below are videos taken after the press conference where key players in the big event reply to questions that weren't asked at the podium.
Owner Mike Ilitch took about three minutes to talk with the media before leaving the Fielder party. One of the highlights of the video is 97.1 The Ticket's Bob Wojnowski (Wojo) asking Ilitch if people thought he was crazy when he suggested that the team bring in Fielder. Watch for the bosses answer! Ilitch also talks a lot about the city of Detroit and how he constantly tries to help out any way he can.
Manager Jim Leyland continued to talk about his projected lineup and how Miguel Cabrera will perform at 3rd base. The Ticket's Jamie Samuelson asked Leyland if Miggy being moved away from 3rd base back in 2008 was more because of Carlos Guillen needing a place to play more than anything else. Watch and listen for the skipper's reaction as he starts to talk about another member of the Tigers instead of Cabrera. Leyland also raps about how shocked he was when he heard that Fielder was a Tiger.
Prince Fielder spends a solid seven minutes with the media talking about his new city and team. The Ticket's Mike Stone (Stoney) asked Fielder about the relationship with his father Cecil Fielder. I also had a chance to speak to Prince about his new contract and ask if he got more then he ever thought he would.
