Jeff Riger: No Talking Please!

Lions players and coaches gathered at TPC Michigan in Dearborn on Tuesday morning to play in a charity golf outing. The event marked the first time that players and coaches actually saw and talked to each other due to the NFL lockout. However there are certain topics that cannot be spoken about, aka anything football related. "I don't really know, so I think it's easy to stay away from all of it. You say hello to them, ask how everybody is doing and kind of go along with your way" said quarterback Drew Stanton. Most of the players in attendance claimed it's not weird to not talk football but how could that be? What else would a football team that has been separated in what seems like forever talk about? Head coach Jim Schwartz said "there's plenty of times that we are around the players and don't talk football." Schwartz then joked with the media saying "on the back nine (of the course at the outing) you won't see guys doing seven on seven (drills) or anybody sprinting down the fairways or swimming in the ponds."

Detroit's first round draft pick Nick Fairley was also in attendance at the golf outing and explained that the reason that he has not taken part in player led practices is because he is dealing with undisclosed issues at home. Fairley has been working out and is confident that when football activities resume that he will be ready to go. The defensive lineman was also asked about his shoulder which was a question mark going into the draft and Fairley reassured the media that he is fine and that he is rehabbing every day. Fairley will be at the White House on Wednesday to celebrate his Auburn football team winning the National Title in College Football last season.
