Jeff Riger: Mark Dantonio Not Talking About Alleged Dirty Play!
As Mark Dantonio took to the podium on Tuesday morning in East Lansing, there was no question that the head coach would field some rather "dirty" questions. And he did! You see, after Michigan State beat Michigan on Saturday by a couple of touchdowns, the chatter after the game was not the Spartans domination of the Wolverines for a fourth straight time but rather how MSU, all of a sudden turned into a dirty team.
Tuesday morning the Big Ten conference notified Michigan State that it is looking into possible incidents of unsportsmanlike conduct stemming from Saturdays game. Sophomore defensive end William Gholston could be a focus of the investigation considering he had two personal fouls in the game. Gholston faces a possible suspension for twisting the facemask of Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson and punching offensive lineman Taylor Lewan.
Dantonio was asked for his comments about his team being dirty and he responded "you have to take into context how we played here for the last fifty plus games...that's how I would respond to that." Dantonio was also questioned specifically about Gholston saying "I'm not talking about these things right now, until there has been a review of this from the Big Ten."
As it stands now, Michigan State will have its full compliments of players going into their toughest task of the season, a night game at Spartan Stadium against 4th ranked Wisconsin. However that could obviously change throughout the course of the week.
