Jeff Lesson Preview The U.S. Open
By: Jeff Lesson
The U.S. Open will be played this week at The Olympic Club outside of San Francisco. All reports are it will be a typical U.S. Open setup with long rough, narrow fairways and ridiculously fast greens.
The U.S Open is probably the only major where you must drive it in the fairway to have any chance of winning. The rough is just too thick to hit a near 500 yard par four green from the rough.
As such, for Tiger Woods to have a chance he must hit irons off most of the tees just like he did at The Memorial last week. He also must putt better than he has in three years.
It is unlikely that both will occur.
Nor is it likely that Rory McElroy will contend. He has choked miserably in recent weeks, having missed three consecutive cuts at one point.
Truly, I have no clue who will win, but cannot wait to watch!
