Janitor To Face Charges In Nursing Home Sex Assault
A Oakland county janitor will be arraigned Thursday in the sexual assault of an elderly Alzheimer's patient at a Rochester Hills nursing home.
The 51-year-old Orion Township man is accused of assaulting an 84-year-old woman at the Medilodge Nursing home on Walton Blvd., where he worked as a custodian.
WWJ spoke Wednesday with Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard.
"It's just absolutely outside the bounds of how disgusting we can be, when we're talking about an elderly person who has a medical condition that's being victimized and used in this way," Bouchard said.
Sheriff Bouchard said this is more than a case of a man exposing himself.
"Preliminary information doesn't appear at all that it was just an exposure. We believe that there was an attempt to go beyond that to have her touch or to do things to him. He was standing directly next to her face, and his pants were down and his underwear were down," Bouchard said.
Bouchard said there was another woman in the room who was sleeping when it happened. A Nurse's Assistant, making her rounds, saw what happened and immediately reported the incident.
Bouchard would not confirm whether or not the suspect has confessed, but he said the man is cooperating with authorities.
Detectives believe that there are at least two other victims, both also residents of that nursing home.
The suspect had worked at Medilodge for three years. He is being held at the Oakland County Jail.
