Jackson County Gets Water Quality Monitoring Grant
The Jackson County Conservation District will receive a $39,403 grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to conduct monitoring of E. coli, dissolved oxygen and suspended solids in the upper reaches of the Grand River.
Paul Rentschler, an aquatic and wetland ecologist from ASTI Environmental, assisted in the grant application.
"It's rewarding to go beyond the consultant-client relationship and contribute to the success of the Jackson County Conservation District," Rentschler said.
Rentschler has more than 20 years of experience in ecological assessment, forestry, wildlife and fisheries research and management, watershed and storm water management and wetland delineation. He is an active member of the Society of Wetland Scientists, Society of American Foresters, American Fisheries Society and the International Society of Arboriculture. He graduated from Michigan Technological University with a bachelor's degree in forestry and is currently finishing post graduate work at the University of Michigan.
