'Jackets For Jobs' Helps Unemployed Dress For Success
DETROIT (WWJ) - With the help of T.J. Maxx, Detroit business Jackets For Jobs provides clothing for job interviews to people who cannot afford it.
The department store chain donated clothing from its summer line to Jackets For Jobs Wednesday.
Program founder and CEO Alison Vaughn said the clothing will help about a thousand people a year get back on their feet economically.
"Thanks to TJ Maxx donating millions of dollars in clothing, we're able to help a lot of individuals put their best foot forward to seek employment," she said.
Vaughn said the company also offers interview training and wardrobe tips.
"We've been able to help thousands of individuals get back on their feet through employment etiquette training and clothing," she said. "We have our volunteers and our staff teach the men how to tie a tie, and teach the ladies how to coordinate an outfit together."
According to Vaughn, the goal of the organization is to get people off the streets and into offices -- and she's often blown away by the results.
"It's kind of like the Cinderella story," she said.
To help prolong each client's success, the store also provides each person with 2-3 additional outfits for them to wear once they land a job.
