Izzo Makes Video For Nebraska Basketball: 'You Kicked Our Butt'

CBS DETROIT - Intensely competitive on the court, longtime Michigan State head coach showed his softer side - sort of - with a congratulatory video for Nebraska head coach Tim Miles on the eve of the school's year-end basketball banquet. As would be expected, Izzo delivers heartfelt sentiment wrapped in his trademark gruffness.
Izzo began with a greeting quickly followed by a social media zinger.
"I was going to send you a tweet to congratulate you on your accomplishments this year, but you know I don't tweet, and I make fun of people who do," Izzo said, pointing at the camera, "and you're high on my list in that respect."
The coach also referenced the Feb. 16 game in which the Huskers upset the perennial Big Ten favorites.
"I also wanted to congratulate you on your Coach of the Year award," Izzo said. "I didn't get any flowers, candy, anything, for being a big, instrumental part of that, by the way - you kicked our butt here later on in February.
"I don't know why in the hell I'm even doing this congratulatory video because I really don't like you," Izzo added. "You cost me a lot this year, probably cost us a chance to win the Big Ten in the way we never recovered from that whooping you gave us."
Then, of course, Izzo concluded with the official happy-for-you message that was, after all, the whole point.
"On a serious note, glad to have Nebraska in the league, can't wait to see your brand-new arena, I hear it's phenomenal, and I really appreciate the job you did this year, and how you did it," Izzo said. "I think the first time I came to Nebraska was with Nick Saban, I think back in 1995, and I think you beat us 55-3 in football, and people were so good and kind. I hope it remains that way. I hope you have a hell of a night, and congratulations on your award."
