It's Not Too Late For A Flu Shot
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - If you think flu season is over in Michigan, think again.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with Washtenaw County Health Department epidemiologist Laura Bauman, who said there's actually widespread flu activity in the state right now.
And, it's expected to continue through the end of this month.
"What's going on this year is we have three different strains of influenza circulating at the same time . We have H1N1, from last year so the same one that was circulating last year is back. We also have influenza B and also H3N2," Bauman said.
Bauman said three children have died in Michigan from the flu this year, but they aren't tracking adult deaths as closely. A 66-year-old Washtenaw County man died from influenza in recent weeks, but he had severe underlying disease.
According to Bauman, it's not too late to get a flu show. Meanwhile, she says stay home if you're sick. A new Accountemps survey says 74 percent of workers go to work when they're sick and most co-workers don't appreciate it.
