It'll Be The Yankees Next For Tigers
DETROIT (AP) - Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers are headed to New York for a playoff rematch with the Yankees.
The Tigers had about a day to savor their five-game victory over the Oakland Athletics before learning their opposition in the AL championship series. The Yankees edged Baltimore 3-1 on Friday night to set up a matchup with Detroit.
The Tigers were set to fly to New York on Friday night. Game 1 against the Yankees is Saturday night.
Detroit beat the Yankees in five games in the playoffs last year before losing in the ALCS to Texas.
Verlander led the Tigers past the Athletics by throwing a four-hit shutout in Game 5 on Thursday.
