Investigators: Revenge Might Have Fueled Motel Fire

DETROIT (WWJ) - Investigators say a fire at a motel on Detroit's west side might have been deliberately set by a man who was looking to get revenge on a resident.

The fire started around 3 a.m. Friday at the Victory Inn and Suites on Telegraph Road just south of Grand River Avenue. More than two dozen people ran from the motel into the freezing cold night to escape the flames.

Officials say the fire appears to have started in one unit and quickly spread through about half of the motel's 70 units. No one was injured.

Investigators on the scene told WWJ's Charlie Langton it appears the fire was deliberately set by a man who was in a dispute with a motel resident over a cell phone.

Police say they're looking for a 35-year-old Detroit man who might be connected with the incident, but declined to provide additional details.

The fire remains under investigation.
