Investigators: Man Found Shot On I-696 Is Not Cooperating
ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Roseville police say a 60-year-old man found shot along I-696 isn't cooperating with investigators.
The Eastpointe man was found around 2 p.m. Monday lying on an embankment along eastbound I-696 at Grandmont Street, between Gratiot Avenue and Groesbeck Highway.
Police responded to the scene after receiving several calls about a man in distress and found the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper abdomen.
The man was conscious and seemed to be coherent, but police say he gave several conflicting accounts of how he was shot. Reports indicate the man initially told police he was selling a gun to someone who used the weapon to shoot him. A gun was recovered near the scene.
"At this we are unsure as to what actually occurred or how the man came to be upon the freeway embankment," police said in a statement.
The man was transported to a local hospital with what was described as a non-life threatening injury.
The incident remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone who was traveling in the area of I-696 and 11 Mile Road and might have seen anything suspicious to contact investigators at 586-447-4483.
