Investigators Bust Illegal Pill Peddlers In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Investigators say they have confiscated drugs, a car and $256,000 in cash during a multi-agency sweep.
Acting on tips from the community, narcotics investigators from Wayne County, Detroit Police and ATF executed several warrants on Thursday, leading to the arrest of at least one serial offender plaguing a Southwest Detroit community.
Police searched three homes, two in Detroit and one in Lincoln park, where they made the seizure of an estimated 1,200 prescription pills (Vicodin, Xanax, Somas, Methadone), marijuana, one vehicle,over $7,000 cash and several medical health cards belonging to patients.
An additional search warrant executed on a safe deposit box at a Detroit bank Friday led investigators to seize over $249,000 in illegal proceeds.
Sheriff Benny N. Napoleon said the operation has been under surveillance for months, and called the bust a major dent in the illegal pill trade due to the consistent volume that has occurred.
Four suspects, three from Detroit and one from Lincoln Park, were arrested. One of the men is facing federal charges. All are facing multiple charges of narcotics delivery and are scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday at 36th District Court.
