Interview: State Treasurer Andy Dillon
DETROIT (WWJ) - As Detroit struggles to balance the budget and erase a deficit, will the state have to appoint an Emergency Financial Manager for the city? State Treasurer Andy Dillon doesn't think so.
"I probably spend at least half my time working with, whether it be Detroit or other local units of government ... We've taken a much more proactive role to work with them to make sure we avoid the Emergency Manager status," Dillon said in a live interview on WWJ Newsradio 950.
Dillon also does not think Mayor Bing will be able to convince state lawmakers to approve a higher casino tax to bring in more revenues. And while it will be a struggle, Dillon does not believe Detroit is heading for bankruptcy.
Meantime, while Pontiac's Emergency Financial Manager thinks one way to solve the city's financial problems is a merger with Oakland County, Dillon isn't convinced that's the best way out of debt for that city.
