Inmate Accused Of Plotting To Kill State Lawmaker
LANSING (AP) - A 43-year-old prison inmate serving time for soliciting a murder has been arraigned on accusations he plotted the kidnapping and murder of a Michigan legislator.
State police say Larry Taylor was arraigned Thursday in Marquette on a charge of solicitation for murder. He remains in custody at the Baraga Correctional Facility in the Upper Peninsula.
State police spokeswoman Shanon Banner says prison officials intercepted a letter Sept. 9 detailing Taylor's plot against state Rep. Barb Byrum, a Democrat from Onondaga, near Lansing.
Banner says Taylor was at the Marquette Branch Prison at the time. She says Taylor discussed the plot with an undercover police officer. Taylor is serving time in a 2005 Lansing-area murder solicitation case involving another target.
Banner says she doesn't know if Taylor has a lawyer.
