Inkster Woman Shot In Butt While Driving With 4 Kids In Minivan
INKSTER (WWJ) - Police in Inkster are looking for three men who allegedly shot at a 39-year-old woman's minivan as she was driving home from a local restaurant with her children, striking the woman.
The incident unfolded around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday when a officials say Dearborn Heights police officers observed a silver minivan disregard a stop sign at Princeton and Beech Daly and continue northbound. The officers stopped the van and discovered that the female driver was suffering from a gunshot wound to her left buttocks area. Several bullet holes were also observed on the exterior of the driver's side rear door, according to police.
The woman told police she was driving home from a nearby restaurant with her four children, ages five to 17, when she came across three men standing near the intersection of John Daly and Bayham.
"According to the victim, when she drove by the three black males, she heard what she thought were rocks being thrown at her vehicle," police said in a statement. "The female victim eventually realized that they were shooting at her vehicle, and she discovered that she had been shot once in the left buttock."
Police say the woman told her she thinks the shooting was random and that neither she nor her children were being targeted.
The children were not injured.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Beaumont Oakwood Main in Dearborn, where she was last listed in stable condition.
The suspects remain at large. All three are described black males wearing hooded sweatshirts.
