Inkster Police Chief Retires After 41 Years On The Force
INKSTER (WWJ) - Retirement for Inkster's Chief of Police, Gregory Gaskin, is Tuesday, January 3rd.
Gaskin announced his decision to call it quits the same time he announced budget cuts that were leading to the layoffs of 14 of the city's 59 cops.
Gaskin says the layoffs were the hardest thing he had to do during 41 years in law enforcement and the first time he's had to layoff cops -- he admits it had something to do with his decision to retire.
Although the soon-to-be former police chief says there was a lot more good than bad involved in his career.
"You know I had a lot of good years - especially in DPD, my biggest accomplishment there was overcoming the devils's night," said Gaskin. "That was my baby when I worked at technical operations and myself and the crew down there - we put together a good plan that the city of Detroit's still using."
Gaskin says he also headed up the Gaming Division for the casinos in Detroit. The Inkster Police Chief says he has no plans to join another police force; he's just looking forward to enjoying retirement.
At the time Gaskin spoke with WWJ about the layoffs and his retirement, a replacement hadn't been named, although the Chief expected Deputy Police Chief Hilton Napolean to be named Interim Chief.
