Inkster Fire Chief Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges
CANTON (WWJ) - Inkster's fire chief is facing criminal charges after he was arrested in Canton for an alleged domestic assault.
Canton Police say 51-year-old John Adams was arraigned on two counts of domestic violence following Thursday's incident at his home.
Police responded to the home just after 11 p.m. for a reported domestic disturbance, which led to Adams' arrest. Other circumstances weren't immediately clear. Adams, who is also the parks and recreation director for the city of Westland, spent one night in the Canton jail.
One of the charges stems from Thursday's incident, while the second offense is for a prior unreported incident, according to police.
When confronted by WXYZ-TV at Inkster's Memorial Day parade, Adams said the case has "no bearing on what I do professionally."
"I have been an upstanding public servant for 26 plus years," Adams told the TV station. "I will allow my record to speak for itself. This particular incident is not going to blemish me at all."
Adams is due back in court on June 10. An investigation is ongoing.
