Inkster Couple Die In Apparent Murder-Suicide
INKSTER (WWJ) - Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a husband and wife in Inkster.
Authorities responded to the home on Helen, near Cherry Hill and Inkster roads, late Monday night because the garage was on fire. Sgt. Jeffrey Twardzik said when officers arrived, they looked through a front door window and noticed blood on the walls.
"We ended up forcing the front door, entering the home and discovering a body in the back bedroom. Once the flames were put out in the garage, they also found a body in the vehicle inside the garage," he said. "This looks like it was possibly a murder-suicide."
Inside the home, police found what was described as a "violent scene." It appears the man stabbed his wife to death before setting the garage on fire and taking his own life, according to police.
Twardzik said the victims, Cindy and Antonio Bailey, are well-known in the community. He said it's too early in the investigation to say for sure what led to the killings.
"From what we understand from the neighbors, they are prominent people in the neighborhood, you know, no problems that we're aware of," he said.
An investigation is ongoing.
