Injured Detroit Cop Thanks Students For Support
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Commander of Detroit's 6th Precinct paid a visit to Mann Elementary School to thank the students for their cards and letter following the January shooting that injured him and three of his officers.
"I think I'm a better person. You know, when your life is in God's hands, I think that that's going to change your life, to some extent, as you move forward," Davis said.
WWJ's Florence Walton reported that Davis appeared a bit overwhelmed by all the love shown to him by the kids.
"I told my wife I wouldn't cry up here. It's just been fantastic, and I really, really appreciate your support. I really do... Every card you guys sent me, all that stuff, I read everything," he said.
Davis was shot in the back and hand and three other Detroit Police officers were wounded when a man walked into the 6th Precinct and opened fire, seven weeks ago. The gunman, 38-year old Lamar Moore, was fatally shot.
More than a dozen police officers were honored
by Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee and City Council for their bravery during the attack. Commander Davis was credited as a hero.
