CBS DETROIT - On Veterans Day 2016, as the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor approaches, the Michigan State Spartans will participate in a doubleheader at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Honolulu, Hawaii.

ESPN released the news Friday that the Spartans will participate in the Armed Forces Classic in two years and included a statement from Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo.

"As coaches and teams we talk about hard work, overcoming adversity and sacrifice," Izzo. "This will be a chance to pay tribute in our own little way to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we might enjoy the freedoms we still enjoy today.''

Michigan State will play Arizona, and Kansas will play Indiana.

The Spartans have a history of participating in games meant to honor the armed forces. In 2011 they played North Carolina on the USS Carl Vinson off the coast of San Diego, and in 2012 the Spartans played UConn at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Michigan State lost both of those games.

The Spartans start the 2014-2015 season Friday night at Navy.
