I-94/M-39 Project In Wayne County Moves To New Phase
ALLEN PARK (WWJ) - The Michigan Department of Transportation is reminding motorists that a continuous left-lane closure on eastbound and westbound I-94 near M-39 (Southfield Freeway) will start Saturday, June 23.
The lane closures and subsequent traffic shifts will allow crews to begin major repair work on the I-94 bridges over M-39. The project, which is expected to wrap up in October, is part of a $13.8 million investment to repair the interchange.
On Saturday, eastbound I-94 will be reduced to one lane from Telegraph Road to Outer Drive from 4 a.m. to noon. From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., westbound I-94 will be reduced to one lane from Oakwood Boulevard to Pelham Road. The lane closures are needed in order for crews to install the traffic shifts.

Crews will also close the Pelham Road ramp to eastbound I-94, and the northbound M-39 ramp to westbound I-94. After 7 p.m., both directions of I-94 will have the left lanes closed with traffic shifted to the right in order to maintain two lanes during peak travel times. The continuous lane and ramp closures are expected to be removed in mid-September.
Lane closures on northbound and southbound M-39 under I-94 will be in place beginning June 30. The left lane of northbound M-39 will be closed from Allen to Van Born roads, and the left lane of southbound M-39 will be closed from Oakwood Boulevard to Pinecrest Drive. These lane closures will last until late July.
