I-94 Closed After Accident, Fuel Spill
SCIO TWP. (WWJ) - Police were forced to shut down a portion of I-94 just west of Ann Arbor after an accident sent diesel fuel spilling onto the freeway.
The accident happened just before 6 a.m. Tuesday on westbound I-94 near Zeeb Road. The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office said a tanker and a jackknifed semi-truck were involved.
Police said both truck drivers were injured in the crash. Both were taken to the University of Michigan hospital in stable condition.
Officials on the scene said a large amount of diesel fuel spilled onto the freeway from one of the trucks, and that the other truck is leaking "something" that they are evaluating. A HAZMAT team has not yet been called to the scene.
Police say the freeway will remain shut down between the M-14/Exit 171 and Baker Road/Exit 167 for hours while their investigation and cleanup continues.
