Husband Found Guilty In Comic Book Store Murder
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - Guilty on all counts. That's the verdict in the Macomb County trial of Michael George, the so-called "comic book killer."
The 51-year-old man was on trial for a second time in the July 1990 murder of his first wife, Barbara George, inside the couple's Clinton Township comic book store. The jury of six men and six women began deliberating last week following a month-long trial with 36 prosecution witnesses and eight defense witnesses.
George was charged with first and second-degree murder, firearm offenses, insurance fraud and false pretenses on claims he shot his wife in the head in the back room of store, and later cashed in on her life insurance policies and married his mistress.
Witness testimony placed George at the store the afternoon his wife was shot, although George's mother testified that her son was napping on her the sofa at the time of the crime.
